It turns out my console never actually updated to the most latest version so I'm in the clear and even got my own CFW loaded up within the last 20 minutes (and even that allowed me to update to the most recent version and everyone has vetted that it's safe). I had zero knowledge that I would be headed down this route even after 12 years of using the DS platform. I went down the rabbit hole and found what I was looking for but I was way past the update part as that was the first thing that greeted me when I booted up the console that first time I loaded up the game. I then wondered if it was actually possible to acquire DLC content outside of eShop and someone recommended check out. I made a post about it and got no responses. ![]() ![]() There were some free content available via DLC and to my dismay, eShop had been closed for some months. Why did I become interested now? I realized my 3DS console was way past neglect so I loaded up a game just to play something on it. Or at least use it to add RGB lighting lol. Will probably make a post over on r/LinusTechTips and r/homelab or something when I eventually do put together a whole phone pocket pc, might try to throw in an rf transceiver (radio/cb/walkie), Raspberry Pi rp2040, other things to make it a hardware hacking tool as well. The only debate is Windows 11 + Subsystem for Android, or SteamOS desktop, and try to find an android emulation solution? Would love to still get Spotify/maps/android auto, without being limited. RIP console, F# you iOS, and Android, long live the pocket pc! (Win 1 had a bad layout, newer ones have better switches and more comfy layouts) Throw on retroarch or your fav emulators, and steam/other mandatory launchers, and you’re set!Īnything with a built in controller is nice, though for me and my big hands, I prefer physical keyboards over touch. The future is pocket-size pcs like the ayaneo or steam deck (switch-likes) or the gpd win series (clamshell), there’s tons of options, and I’m eyeballing a kit for the newest gpd win to turn it into my daily driver cell phone. It's pretty much a no-win situation for them at this point. It's a very fine balance to uphold, keeping fans happy while also protecting their IP's and I don't envy Nintendo's position at all. It's just that I can understand why they do, what they do. Especially with some of thier more unsavory tactics, such as this patch on a console they aren't even really supporting anymore,or being nearly completely against "let's plays" of their games and going overboard with copyright claims on YT videos featuring their games, or refusing to provide options for players to play games without having to resort to piracy. With that said, it doesn't mean I like what they do, or agree with them. Nintendo's most valuable resource is it's many unique and super popular IP's so it's more than understandable that they take the stance they do and are more than willing to do pretty much anything to protect them and ensure they never lost control over them. So with Nintendo and any other company, it just does not make any sense to simply "allow" certain things to happen without making some attempt to stop it, other wise they are literally jeopardizing losing control over it forever. Exactly, people don't seem to understand or just don't know that when it comes to IP, the onus is on the owner to protect them and if they don't there is a big risk that they will permanently lose them.
